This is a celebration of the wonderful work and life of John Peel, the greatest DJ there ever will be. Tickets are £6.00 via This special gig will be an all-dayer and will have John Peel shows played throughout and his favourite tracks played at the nights end in a John Peel Wingding disco!
P.W. Long (Wig/Mule/Reelfoot) genuine legend (Southern) ‘P. W.’s music has always come from the heart, and on Remembered, the blood pours. The lyrics resonate with the voice of someone who knows he’s made mistakes, but underneath it all, there’s a faint hope of redemption.’ (wikipedia entry).
Joanne Robertson: She plays drums, writes songs, plays guitar, sings and has supported Franz Ferdinand and is soon to gig with Howe Gelb. Her debut album came out on Textile which is home to Jackie O’ Motherfucker/Telescopes.
M.J. Hibbitt: king of Optimistic Pop and Steve Lamaq/Radio6/XFM favourite who had 3 million downloads of his recent smash hit Hey Hey 16K and had a sell out run at the Edinburgh festival with his ‘my exciting life is show business’ show.
Dredlunadare: A John Peel day would not be complete without a super loud and scary act so we have these Barking based shellac’ish noizeniks who stir up a crazed angular ruckus which is several orders of magnitude more interesting than many of the Math Rock clone acts currently hogging London stages. Lower Slaughter North London’s Arty answer to Sonic Youth. Expect Pomo NoWave Postskackerism from this Alt 3 piece who explode with beautiful noise invention. The band features the more attractive members of Huw Stephens favourites ‘fantaplastic’ and ’smallgang’ and sound like Robert Wyatt crossed with the Swirlies.
Russ and the wolf Choir: Romford’s only poet who sits snugly in-between Jason Molina/Geoff Farina and Kevin Devine and deals in the lovelorn lullabies for the lonely, loveless or just a bit heartbroken.
Former Utopia Possibly: The only indigenous cockney still remaining in East London and an iconoclastic genre hopping intellectual sombre song smith. As down to earth and utopian as Billy Bragg, as haunted as Bill Callahan, as prolific as The Mountain Goats and on occasion as furious as Shellac. He has the manic obsessive inventiveness of an atheist Daniel Johnston but balanced with the insight and height of George Orwell. ‘Smog on holiday in shellac’ DIS

JOHN PEEL DAY IN MILAN, ITALY
It’s been four years since John Peel departure, so we we’d like to celebrate this massively influential figure of our time. In the last 3 years we organized dj sets, podcasts & radio shows to remember our teacher as he’d wish: playing and staying together. This time we decided to play in one of the settings John Peel liked the most: the bar, with the “one dish” technique.
“Unpiattosolo* Guerilla Style– Special John Peel Day 2008”
Starring : Francesco Roccaforte (Unpiattosolo – Radio 2), Luca de Gennaro (Whatever – Radio Capital), Fabio De Luca (Weekendance.com) Stefano By Night (Punto Radio – Roma – 1970’s and 80’s), Luca Scotto di Carlo (Metal LSD), Bartenders Frog & Andrea.

Italiano:
RICORDANDO JOHN PEEL
“Unpiattosolo – Speciale John Peel Day 2008″
Dj set con un solo giradischi e vinile originale, nell’intima cornice del Pravda Vodka Bar di Via Vittadini 6, Milano. A partire dalle 20 e finchè si chiude la saracinesca.
Djs: Francesco Roccaforte, Luca de Gennaro, Fabio De Luca, Stefano By Night, L.S.D., (5 djs, 1 piatto solo)

Date:
Saturday 8th November 4.30pm to Midnight
Venue:
King William IV Pub, in Cottingham near Hull, East Yorkshire
Details:
‘Better Late Than Never’ John Peel Charity Day – Unplugged.
Featuring 13 local acts: JAMES DEAN SYNDROME, THE FAVOURS, AFTERGLOW, KARL CULLEY, ABBIE LAMMAS, STICKPIN, NOCTURNAL FLOWERS, DENNIS CARUANA, EMMA RUGG, CREEK CATS, PIGSTY, UKULELE BILL AND MARTIN.
It’s a FREE entry concert and the pub is making a substantial donation to the British Heart Foundation. There will be a fantastic raffle prize – an oil painting of John and a couple bottles of red wine of course.

The Electric Proms 2008 from the BBC, runs from 22nd to 26th October, and this year’s event has added value folks. It’s to be staged in London, oh yes as usual, but also for the first time, in Liverpool. Bearing in mind Liverpool’s status this year as European Capital of Culture, I think we can expect big things for John Peel Day 2008 don’t you? Why are you making that face? Oh look at you, you’re so cynical. I’ve despatched emails to each relevant press office, so we should have some news shortly. Jolly good.

Did you make that banner? It’s really cool.
Cheers Adam, yes I did :) The right hand side is the logo from the Radio 1 site obviously, I just updated it with the speaker and date motif. Feel free to use it if you want.
Sorry you had to await comment approval by the way. You should have pre-approved status. I’ll have to look into that!
Just stopping by to say cheers, and pay the proper respects. This is an outstanding tribute to a great guy. I keep trying to spread the joy that was John Peel over on this side of the pond…site like this can only help! Congrats.
Thank you Jim.
Be sure you check out the John Peel Website links. The best of them, in alphabetical order: A Peel a Day, Fades in Slowly, John Peel Torrents, John Peel Wiki, John Peel’s Record Box, Kat’s Karavan, Peel Newsgroup, Perfumed Garden, Right place, right time, wrong speed, Teenage Kicks.
