2009 Music Festival PR Fever

Some of this year’s music festivals have decided it’s wise to skip a year in the light of present economics. However others, such as Glastonbury and Bestival are increasing their spend and between them have already secured Neil Young, Kraftwerk, and Massive Attack, according to this promotional item, oh excuse me I mean ‘news report’, from 6 music. “In recent months, festivals from Scotland to the Isle of Wight have been cancelled due to the economic slowdown.”, it states.

Here are how some of the 2009 lineups look so far…

Glastonbury:

Neil Young, Franz Ferdinand, Blur, Bruce Springsteen.
To be confirmed: Crosby Stills and Nash, Lily Allen, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Doves, Emiliana Torrini, Fleet Foxes.

Bestival:

Kraftwerk, Massive Attack, Soulwax/2manydjs, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Bat for Lashes, Klaxons, Seasick Steve.

ATP Weekends:

The Breeders, Devo, Spiritualized, Beirut, Sleep, M83, Killing Joke, Young Marble Giants, Anti-Pop Consortium, Throwing Muses, Bon Iver, Tricky, Foals, Teenage Fanclub, Holy Fuck.

Isle of Wight Festival:

The Pixies, Neil Young, The Prodigy, The Charlatans, Stereophonics, Basement Jaxx, Pendulum, The Ting Tings.

V Festivals:

The Killers, Oasis, Snow Patrol, Razorlight, Keane, The Specials, Pendulum, MGMT.

1997 The Orb at Glastonbury

I’ve been quite enjoying the Orb’s current album The Dream, which makes a change from several of their previous releases. So I have to give this posting a quick mention…

“Download a live set recorded at Glastonbury. ..recorded and broadcast by Radio 1, recorded to cassette and transferred/tape hiss removed with Goldwave. I think there’s even a snippet of the late great John Peel at the end, as he used to handle much of Radio 1’s Glastonbury coverage in those days.”

Peel: July 2003 – programme 2

No confessional today I’m afraid. I know how much you were enjoying the jaunt into my troubled psyche but you’ll just have to put up with a dusty old copy of the John Peel show for now. Tsk!
